Thargomindah is situated 200 kilometres west of Cunnamulla and lies on the Bulloo River. Approximately 250 people reside in the town.

The school has a population of 26 students from Kindy to Year 6 and offers a quality early childhood program. The school has sustained gradual growth over recent years. The school community covers a wide range of socio-economic groups and parental expectations from the school community are high.

Thargomindah State School has a teaching staff with varied professional experiences, who provide a wide range of academic, cultural and sporting programs. The school is very well supported educationally and financially by an active P&C Association.

The school is administered by a teaching Principal and Administration Officer. Thargomindah State School has a K-2 class teacher, a 3-6 class teacher and 3 teacher aides. We also have a part-time cleaner and grounds person. Thargomindah State School provides a quality teaching and learning program across the key learning areas for all students in Years K - 6. We cater for students with special needs through the development of fully integrated programs. Our students are involved in a variety of extra-curricular activities and cultural programs.

Students in all year levels learn French and we are proud to champion the importance of learning a foreign language. Knowledge, courtesy and truth are the core values of Thargomindah State School. School assembly is held each Friday morning with members of the community in attendance. During assembly, we celebrate the student’s successes and achievements over the past week.

In 2012 a Remote Secondary Learning Facility opened on the grounds of Thargomindah State School. This is a shared project between the Charleville School of Distance Education, Bulloo Shire Council and Thargomindah State School. In 2018, we have 4 students enrolled in this facility supported by a teacher aide.

The school produces a fortnightly newsletter. These newsletters keep the local community informed of current events and activities that occur in the district.

We are grateful for the generous support from within our local community, especially that of the Bulloo Shire Council, whose financial contributions are significant. This is a strong and committed community that is proud of the town and the school.
